Flex Power Modules extends manufacturing to Europe

News
Expansion supports production of embedded power products for AI data centres

Flex Power Modules has extended its manufacturing to Europe with new production based at the Flex facility in Althofen, Austria. This move boosts the company’s power module capacity, enabling Flex Power Modules to respond faster and more efficiently to rapidly growing demand from AI data centre customers.

This expansion supports production of embedded power products for AI data centres, reflecting the rising need for high-density, efficient power solutions to address the significant power and thermal challenges of power-hungry AI compute. With Althofen joining existing manufacturing sites in Shanghai and Penang, Flex Power Modules is strengthening regional support for its customers with shorter lead times and improved supply chain resilience.

Flex Althofen brings over five decades of experience in electronics manufacturing and is widely recognised for its long-standing engineering expertise and highly skilled workforce. The site also produces highly advanced products for healthcare, automotive, and industrial applications.

The facility employs approximately 750 people and spans 180,000 square feet of production space. It was also Flex’s first site to receive a Global Lighthouse designation from the McKinsey & Company and World Economic Forum program, recognising the facility’s track record in manufacturing excellence and continuous improvements to its operations.

“Adding production capacity at the Althofen site was a crucial strategic decision to support our fast-growing AI portfolio and is expected to significantly strengthen our ability to support customers,” said Marcus Hansson, VP and general manager of Flex Power Modules. “We now have additional production capacity for our VPD (Vertical Power Delivery) and IBC (Intermediate Bus Converter) products which are key to supporting the power demands of AI infrastructure.”

“Our highly skilled workforce in Althofen has a long-standing tradition of innovation. This additional mission enables us to leverage our engineering expertise and commitment to quality to meet the fast-growing and demanding needs of the AI market,” added Martin Reiner, General Manager of Flex in Althofen.

The ramp-up in capacity for Flex Power Modules at the Flex manufacturing facility in Althofen began in autumn 2025, moving quickly from initial trial runs to full qualification and volume production.
