Stackpole adds higher-power options to automotive-grade chip resistors

Stackpole Electronics has introduced high-power and ultra-high-power versions of its RMCA Series chip resistors, aimed at compact, high-reliability circuit designs.

The new -HP and -UP options extend the RMCA Series, which Stackpole designs for applications needing long service life, stable performance and efficient use of printed circuit board space. According to the company, the additions let design engineers increase power handling without switching to larger resistor footprints or to more expensive established-reliability parts.

Stackpole said the series tackles a familiar tradeoff faced by engineers working on automotive, industrial, transportation and power management designs: stricter reliability and performance requirements often mean lower available power ratings. The -HP and -UP options are intended to give designers extra margin for current sensing, voltage division, biasing and general-purpose circuit protection in layouts where board space is limited and thermal performance matters.

The company said the automotive-grade materials, design and manufacturing behind the RMCA Series make it suitable for products with demanding qualification expectations, extended warranty periods or mission-critical functions. By pairing automotive-grade reliability with higher power density, Stackpole said the series can help engineering teams cut component count, save board area and improve design robustness in compact assemblies.

Pricing depends on package size, power rating, resistance value and tolerance. Stackpole said availability, samples and specific or volume pricing can be obtained from the company or its franchised distribution partners.
